Procedure for commissioning a portrait:

Initial Commissioning and Pricing:
Please email me for full pricing information. Prices will start from as little as $300 and can be paid in installments. A deposit of 50% of the total is payable before commencing. All prices are negotiable. Basically the same prices apply for commissions of either people, pets or houses depending on size of drawing, number of heads/items per drawing, how much work is involved and whether you require a detailed background (I prefer no background for people portraits, but of course it's really up to you) and the amount of time it takes to add this. Sizes I usually work in are 10 x 12", 12 x 16", 16 x 20 inches. Fifty percent is added to the price when a second person or pet is included in the portrait, and after that add another 50 on top of the basic price for every additional person to be drawn in the portrait. Please discuss your preferences and requirements by email. If you have any special requests or concerns please email me or write by letter and I shall consider it as long as the request is reasonable. Equally if you want something other than a portrait or building ask me first if it can be done.

Medium:
I will discuss with you the medium which will be the most suitable to use for your individual portrait, and once I know  your wishes I will render your portrait in one of these mediums: Coloured Pencil, Watercolour, Pastel, Acrylics or Oil.
Brands: I mostly use best quality lightfast Swiss made Caran d'Ache Prismalo or Derwent Coloured Pencils, artist quality Windsor & Newton Watercolours, and Oil paints, and high quality Rembrandt Soft Pastels. Papers used are heavy cartridge acid free paper of 220gsm for CP and a variety of good quality watercolour papers.

Requirements:
I require a good sized and very clear high quality photograph, minimum size of image to be drawn should be no less than 3 by 4 inches and very sharp, in order to get enough detail. (The sharper the better!) Alternatively (and even better really) you can send me a scan by email. This should be in standard compressed format and can be .gif, or .jpg. Please inform me of the correct colour of eyes and hair and any other relevant details which are important and not necessarily obvious from the photograph. The more information I have from you to use the more I can do with it. Personally I prefer to keep backgrounds to a minimum and very light, but if you do have any special requirements please make this clear, or any other wishes you may have, and I will see if it is possible. As long as your request is reasonable I can consider it. Equally if you want something other than a portrait or building ask me if it can be done.

Agreement:
Once you have decided what you want and upon mutual agreement on pricing etc. I will send you a contract by email and ask you to agree to the terms by returning it to me. Once I have this back from you I will then send you an invoice (e.g. by PayPal) for a 50% deposit which I will require before commencing with the drawing.

Address & Payment:
It is important that you tell me your exact return address for sending the completed artwork once it is finished (or phone no. if applic.).  Currency is in US $$'s. You can use the Personal Currency Assistant to convert into or from your own currency.  From the UK I will accept a cheque in pounds sterling. It is also possible to transfer the money directly into a bank account, please ask for details. I would not really recommend sending cash through the post as I cannot take any responsibility for its safe arrival, but if you must please be discreet, and ensure that it is sent by registered or recorded mail in either US dollars, UK sterling or Euros, and remember that it will be at your own risk. If you wish to discuss payment further or you want to find out if  there is any other way to pay please send me an email. 

Final Scan:
Once the work is completed I will send you a scan for your final approval, and if you are happy with it I will ask you to pay the remaining balance of 50% before shipping the artwork to you.

Shipping to You:
All artwork will be shipped unframed, either securely rolled or in a flat pack, whichever is the most suitable (unless otherwise stated), and every precaution will be taken to ensure that the work will reach you safely. If so required we may use a courier service after discussion with you (shipping costs will be extra), but we will only use reputable and highly respected companies for this (e.g. Fedex for international, or Amtrak).

Delivery time required will typically be two months from the date the order is received, subject to my workload.
